It's a long drive from here to any dealers that carry them. I would be interested in one, but the routine maintenance might be a problem

I've had a small electric bike for the last year and it's been great coasting around here...
These little cars are great to fart around for groceries, going to your mother in law, giging at the local bar...you know anything in and around town...second car caper effect...using the Hummer and the Harley for everything else...

You may survive a crash in your gas hog Chevy PU, but you are also more likely to kill someone in another vehicle in a Truck. Try and get insurance after something like that. A friend of mine in high school had this happen to her. She was driving on a relatively rural road where there is a really poorly designed intersection at the top of a hill. It's a blind approach on both sides with not enough should to bail you out if you need it. She crested the top of the hill at the speed limit and someone was stopped waiting to turn left into the neighborhood just built at the crest of the hill. She couldn't stop in time and rear-ended the car in front of her. She was knocked out for a minute or so as she hit the steering wheel pretty hard, and the car she hit burst into flames and killed a whole family. This pretty much destroyed her life. She too was driving a full sized PU.Tubetwang wrote:I like to live dangerously...on the edge...if i might be so bold as to sayStructo wrote:I'll stick to my gas hog, full sized Chevy pickup...

Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!
Re: 13,000$Can. plug and play, no noise, 200 sold in the U.S.A.
well now.
I already have a vehicle that does most of what this car does and even more:
low maintenance costs ... no muffler, oil changes, tuneups, etc., even only costs $30 for a new set of tires but they only last about 3,000 miles
uses zero gasoline, makes zero noise, has zero emissions
will exceed 25mph easily
can be parked indoors, outdoors, upstairs, you name it, just about anywhere
sub-$500 purchase price
doesn't even require any electricity. cost per mile is 0 cents, unless you count food
yeah, it's my bicycle.
25mph regulated speed is nuts. even regular golf cars will outrun that little sucka. I can imagine riding my bicycle in traffic and having to pass these things. I can assure you a 25mph regulated vehicle that does not fit on the shoulder with six feet of passing space will not work in Texas unless you consider it to be a convoluted way of committing suicide.
I like the idea and I was ready to buy one until I saw that 25mph thing. Yeah, I want my commute to transform from 15 minutes to 45 minutes, and also involve a whole lot of honking and middle fingers. but hey! no gas!

Geez, of course that is a terrible thing but if we go through life always afraid of the worst thing that could happen we wouldn't get far, would we?dartanion wrote:You may survive a crash in your gas hog Chevy PU, but you are also more likely to kill someone in another vehicle in a Truck. I drive to my construction sites with a commute of over 60 miles many days.
On I-5 I feel a lot more secure in my pickup than I would in a economy can and the price for the gas is worth it to me at this point.
Especially when semi truck traffic has increased dramatically the last few years, I don't want to get sandwiched between two of those behemoths.

Re: 13,000$Can. plug and play, no noise, 200 sold in the U.S.A.
Tom, the key is that you "feel" safer.
In reality you are not likely safer. Maybe compared to a 25mph vehicle, wherein road rage is going to be the primary factor limiting its safety.
But the fact remains that, say, a Honda Fit, is far safer than a full-size truck in terms of crash survivability, stopping distance and handling (accident avoidance), etc.
I drive a Miata. I have driven sports cars most of my life. No, not American muscle cars or oversized fast cars, but real sports cars that weigh less than 2500 lb and are meant to go, stop and turn fast. I have avoided hundreds of wrecks. I have only been in four wrecks in my life, all but one of which were in something other than one of my sports cars, and all of which were unavoidable. As a rule, if there's any chance to avoid a wreck, I would much rather have a car that pulls over 1g on the skidpad, stops from 60mph in under 120ft, and has tidy enough dimensions that it can be maneuvered to miss an obstacle or another vehicle. Most wrecks are avoidable.
The most afraid and unsafe I have been driving was once when driving a rental car (a mini-van), when I put my foot on the brake to stop at a red light, then the ABS light came on indicating that the stupid POS could not stop that fast, and then it just glided right out through the light into the path of a commuter train. That'll get your attention. The second most I feared for my life in a car was driving my mom's full-size conversion van, when I had a similar thing happen at sub-30mph in a neighborhood at a stop sign. The last place I want to be is in a car that weighs over two tons with half of the brakes and tires of my car. Those yachts just don't stop nearly fast enough for me to feel secure. When I see a full size truck or SUV behind me on the highway, I do whatever I can to get out of that lane. I am dang sure they can't stop fast enough to keep from running over me if I have to stop in a hurry to avoid an accident.
