McIntosh MC-75 unity coupled output transformers

Post by HeeBGB »

Ok so my son recently came to
Me asking for help in building a HiFi rig.
I have always wanted an old McIntosh MC-275 or 240.
I set about trying to find a source for the unity coupled output transformers.
I found a winder that has done it before and is willing to do it for me BUT I need to order at least 16 pieces for him to order the materials needed. I assume he has minimum orders on the materials and needs to move at least 16 to make his profits. I do not have a price per unit from him yet either.

SO my question is.....Is anyone here interested in a set of these transformers they would be suitable for an MC-75 or MC-60. Again I do not know the price yet and I don't want to bother the winder unless I have the ability to move 16 units. So if I have interest I will persue him for price per unit.

Please PM me if interested

If I am not able to get the McIntosh iron I will probably end up building a Dynaco ST70 clone

Mac transformers are quite unique, and had to find, if any.....
I have seen refrences to a US company supplying transformers, and spare transformers should be possible to find, maybe from McIntosh direct, but maybe not without aproper serial number......
You've gotta get googlin'.........

I'm sorry - I didn't readd you post thoroughly... I might be interested.... but I suspect the price will be ugly....... There's still very good transformers out there for the more traditional designs of UL/PP...

Chris Merren is the winder I have contacted. He winds the MC-75 output transformers and says that the specs are the same for the MC-60 outputs.

By all that I have read the McIntosh amps are not all that out of the ordinary aside from the unity coupled output transformers. My plan is to build a couple of MC-75 clones or an MC-275. So if there is interest there may be a group chassis build for this as well.

I just need the 8 or 10 people willing to go for it and then I will approach Chris Merren
