can anyone tell me what song this guy is playing at 2:25?
its the rockabilly / Chet Atkins style riffs.
Just curious if this is from a particular song, or if he's just noodling.
I'd like to learn that progression, or that style.

Sounds like the tune "Are You From Dixie". Check out Scotty Anderson's version: https://youtu.be/lLExWg_V-hIpleasantbullet wrote:can anyone tell me what song this guy is playing at 2:25?

That's truly refreshing! Having learned to play the 'cello in my youth, classical technique requires use of all fingers. The pinky is not an afterthought and sometimes the thumb is used. This video demonstrates this on guitar. I see guys who don't use the pinky or use it rarely, and I think, well, this guy is a great player, but he could be 25% greater if he'd just use the 4th finger! I guess it bugs me to see an accomplished "star" with a lazy pinky.jam-mill wrote:Sounds like the tune "Are You From Dixie". Check out Scotty Anderson's version: https://youtu.be/lLExWg_V-hI

I play upright bass (string bass, or bass violin - whatever you want to call it) and 'thumb position' is critical for upper register access. Until Scotty Anderson, I've never seen a guitar player employ that technique. Agree with the 'lazy pinky'; so many guitar players limit themselves by not using all four fingers.Phil_S wrote:That's truly refreshing!
