Anybody build something like this on the cheap? Running out of mic inputs and thought it would be worth while to cob something together from the junk box to go from an xlr 150 ohm mic in to a 20k TRS line in with a little gain thrown in.
I'll have to come up with something eventually, but I figured maybe someone had something off hand they could point me in the direction of.
Or should I just spend money on something like thishttp://artproaudio.com/art_products/sig ... ubeopto_8/

Mic and phono pre are very similar, minus the RIAA curve.

Re: DIY tube mic preamps?
Those cheap Mouser transformers are pretty good and dead cheap, I mean just a couple bucks. They claim poor bandwidth but that's at performance limits. For a couple bucks more say @ 12-15 Mouser has some even better ones, I think the brand name is Tamura.
After that, it's a triode preamp, choice of EQ if you want, VC also optional, output transformer also optional.

Check over at groupDIY.com. I built a few preamps over there. Anyways, a good start would be a Jensen JT-115K-E lnput xfrm into the grid of yer favorite triode.
