Didn't play the amp case though. Didn't see it until I had been jamming with a Blues Junior for about a half hour. It's weird playing on such a small guitar.

I love those old combos.

But lets face it, a lot of those cheap guitars were horrible.

Dan Electro being some of the better ones.

When I was around 14 I had a Sears & Robuck, very bad 335 copy, that would howl with feedback even at moderate volume.

A buddy was over one night and I cranked the amp and Pete Townshended that thing on the floor!

Best it ever sounded!

Used to load up on amp in case guitars to end deals with. I think the most useful deal was 4 to make up $250 at the end of a trade.

Miserable but they have a place. It's a place very far away!!

Those are fun, I have one guitar and two of the death cases in the dungeon. Worst tuners ever created on these things tho.

Ha. Yeah the GC was selling the guitar alone for $800. The tuners are horrible, but I loved the sound. Super fun guitar to play.

Nice guitars, ER.

I have a Strat loaded with three lipsticks from early 60's U-1 and U-2 guitars and they sound glorious.

Back around 1985 I bought my brother (7 years younger) an almost mint condition Dan Electro.
Not sure of the model but it was like what jumpin' Jimmy Page used.
Dual lipsticks, double cutaway.

Paid $35 for it.

It wasn't out of brotherly love, I got sick of him playing my gear so this got him a guitar.

Sadly that was during his punk years and he totally destroyed that guitar....

I like anemic pick-ups especially in series. I wish these guitars were still cheap, I want to make a masonite tele or firebird.

Randy Rhodes first custom V had a Dano neck on it.

A friend of mine played a silvertone growing up, he now makes some amazing guitars, the latest of which is A LOT like a danelectro but with selected tonewoods and world class craftsmenship. Lance Keltner calls it his favorite humbucker guitar;

Dumbest thing I ever did was sell a Danelectro just like that. Never had the case. Hell of a time keeping the thing in tune. You have to retune it if you played on the different part of the neck, the intonation was so bad. It was cool how you could do bends just by pulling on the neck:

there is a guy over at ReRanch that makes guitars like that.
He makes a frame by laminating plywood, puts blocks for neck and bridge, slaps masonite on front and back.
Uses fender necks and gives them a nice nitro paint job.
They look pretty nice too. :D
