Night Prowler

Post by NickC »

Last night my home, and the one next door (at least), was cased by a prowler. There were tracks in the snow leading up to windows on the dark/out-of-view side of the house, and to my daughters car parked in the driveway. Also tracks around my neighbors garage.

There have been burglaries, mostly cars but also some homes, in the neighborhood.

Looks like time to install motion-detector lights, and maybe an audible zone alarm.

That sure is a reason for uneasy feelings Nick, no one likes to have their property cased. At the least I would recommend taking clear pictures of the footprints and contacting your local authorities. Maybe they can drive by a few more times during the day / night.

Good luck resolving this.

Probably tweakers.

When you sleep they work.

I use these web cams to monitor the deeds of evildoers.

Perhaps you might look into motion sensor lights. My sister has had several cases of prowlers, and motion sensor lights essentially put an end to them (as far as she could tell). I believe there are solar-powered motion sensor lights if the area is too far from convenient wiring.

I live in a rural, remote area and have had 3 break-ins in my barn in the past year. Our area is suffering a dearth of meth head robberies and assaults.

Motion-sensor lights make sense. Problem is the climate here causes them to malfunction. Snow and ice build up confuses the optical sensors causing it to slowly strobe (happens with my front-yard-post light). I presume it would also cause havoc with infra-red sensors? I'll have to look into it, to see if there are weather-shields or other solutions.

It's hard to rest when you feel unsafe or threatened.

Good luck with these punks, this kinda stuff really pisses me off. We had some issues near us awhile back. I don't even like people driving or walking down our cul-de-sac. The older I get the more suspicious I get.

Our Newfoundland usually sleeps in the garage and unfortunately the Great Dane sleeps in our bed and he's a bit on the jumpy side. His scared growl/bark is something to behold.

I hope they get these jackasses

Howdy John,

Do those feed into a multi-channel recording device?

Thanks,
Nick

At the very least, put up some video small monitoring signs in your front yard.

If I may suggest something on the subject of cameras- and this is no way meant to be offensive:

If you do put in video monitoring, have a test subject go round and film them while they do it. Try to get the cameras positioned so that they will actually get good coverage of the suspect's face!!!

The reason I mention this is that my brother-in-law's brother recently had a break in at his summer place. He had gone to the expense of having a local security company put video cameras at various spots around the home. So, when the police ran the surveillance tape what did they get? Fantastic views of a baseball cap from above and the dome of another fellow who could use some Rogaine or Hair Club for Men. They had not one single shot of either fellow's face square on enough to get an ID.

Just hoping it might help. Good Luck, Bill.

Nick:

Up to 15 cameras, and it records to cloud, so no on site media for invaders to destroy.

It's motion activated, and you can set it up to email activation snapshots.

You have web and smartphone access.

they run about 6 months on a cr123 battery.

Remington 870 is also a good deterrent. Don't know if I would have the balls to use if though.

Google Joe Horn Texas. Only good tweaker/prowler is a dead one. World's too small a place now to abide people that prey on hard working folk. I remember when I was a kid, a South African couple that managed our apt building told my mom and I that they left their home unlocked more often than not because the penalty for burglary was to get your god damned hand cut off. I reckon that that kind of disincentive might penetrate even the fog of methamphetamine and give some pause to rethink their next move.
