So, What'da Get ?

Post by Structo »

Huh?

If you actually exchanged gifts, what did you get musically?

My wife and I haven't exchanged gifts in years, always about the kids and grand kids.

Although I did get my wife a point and shoot Canon with case and SD card.
Also a Roku for our bedroom TV.

What did I get?
I bought myself a new wristwatch!

(No, I don't dig out my cell phone to see what time it is)

It isn't expensive, a Invecta Mako Pro Diver Automatic 8927.
Sounds fancy don't it?
It was $85......:D

Oh I almost forgot, because I got it a couple days before Christmas.
It is the book, "Beatles Gear: All the Fab Four's Instruments from Stage to Studio"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/087930 ... UTF8&psc=1

If you want to know what they used when, on what songs and such, this is the bible.

$30 on Amazon.

Basically, they used crap gear until around late 1963, early 1964, then Bryan Epstein was pretty much forced by recording studios to buy top end gear for recording.
Thus, Vox became very important to the Beatles because they basically got it at discount.

Alas, like Charlie Brown, all I got was a rock (the family confused Christmas and Halloween, dontcha know...).

The book sounds interesting. I've always wanted to see a schematic for the fuzz that the engineers at EMI supposedly made for them. I've always read conflicting accounts of whether they used a Maestro fuzz or a custom jobbie out of the EMI labs!

We exchanged gifts of clothing. Very nice. Love to have wife dress me, because I'm fashion unconscious. But no one even tries to buy me musical gifts...and why would they try?!?

Last new pedal arrives today: A Timmy! for low gain boost/OD. It joins an OCD for mid-gain crunch, and a JOYO (I know, right?) Deluxe Crunch for hi-gain.

I also got a modded Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe (very nice!).

All set to play our NYE gig at the Elks Lodge (300-400 tickets sold already!).

My brother called today to wish me a happy birthday.

The only problem was that today is not my birthday.

He is seven years younger than me and a bit of a drunk................:?

I was appreciative that he called but man, no job, no income,
house in foreclosure.

Anyway, Happy New Years to everyone here! :D

Well, i'll tell you what I didn't get: the Strymon El Capistan tape echo simulator pedal. And in spite of the fact I made my wife watch the demo video a few months ago. I guess I was too subtle.

I noticed lots of youngsters sporting watches over the last year - how 20th century! The bigger, the better. And no, these aren't micro-electronics equipped watch-looking bluetooth thingies. Men and women, 2.5-3 inch dials. Maybe it's a steam punk thing.

You hipster! :D

reminds me of Flavor Flav and that goofy ass clock he had hanging around his neck. I could never get the 4 inch bezel wristwatches. I guess people have a hard time reading analog watch hands these days lol.

FWIW i prefer those Sieko 5 series autowinders. Classy!

I got my wife a bunch of Elvis CDs and DVDs, and a copy of Skydog - the 7-CD Duane Allman retrospective.

I got a nice pair of vintage Klipsch Heresys and a boat cover.

Her son sent a batch of honeybees via heifer.org in wife's name - she really thought that was cool ... and so do I.

Wishing more happy for everyone here, and everyone else whose happy increases when others are happy. Less happy to those whose happy increases by making others miserable.

I got a Sawzall, a new wallet, and a TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb.

I got the Mrs. a Taylor 114CE (left handed) acoustic that she had been eyeing.

Fairly quiet christmas for us...our first before our first baby arrives in February.
