Qmark MUH102 Electric Shop / Garage Unit Heater

Anyone wired up one of these units? 220v using simple 2 wire thermostat.

Instructions are crazy regarding AC hookup L1 L2 and ground lug found those way inside the bottom (cover swings open). Control block for thermostat has all kinds of connections and instructions suck. I'm thinking Red and W1.

I would call them up and see what they have to say. Beware, 50/50 you know more than whoever they let you speak with. After that you may have to (oh no) call an electrician!

You might want to find an electrician form and pose the question there. It's too bad about what happened at alt.guitar.amps where a few bad apples polluted the place. There were a couple of licensed master electricians there who probably could have done this in their sleep.

What ya got there is a two stage heater. First stage is w1/second stage is w2
Power gose out on red and returns on w1, then if w1 dose not satisfiy the demand for heat then the second stage will be brought in when there is a 3 degree diffrence form your set point. I do a lot of these in smalll warehouses. The thermostat you can use would be for a heatpump or electric heat.

Thanks for the information. I have a two wire thermostat currently that the supplier said is used with this type of heater.

Ran 8-3 nm wire 50A breaker. I could have used 8-2 nm after looking this thing over but I went with the supplier's suggestion since they sell a crap load of these units. The heater has L1 and L2 connections and ground lug connection but no neutral block. Apparently there is no need for 110v for the fan since the neutral isn't being used correct?

Yeah mark that's correct . The fan motor is 220 as well so no neutral is needed.

Edit...I just re- read your post...also note #8 wire should be on a 40@ breaker not a 50

I have a hanging natural gas heater in my garage but this heater is going into my oldest son's garage.

In 1999 I built a new 30 x 40 shop and put floor heat in, built a boiler, expansion tank, and circulating pump system with three zones I could control. Plus hanging propane heater for when the garage door opened up robbing heat and for quick recovery. Plus wood burner. I was wore out after building that shop, never again.

Nice to have heat in North Dakota winters.

radiant done right won't cool down with garage door open...but yea it is a pain. this is new construction though so it's easy...gotta do it!
