Amp building book suggestions

Post by BenBradshaw »

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I want to learn how to build my own tube amps. I was thinking of getting a weber kit, but first I wanted to read some material on the subject so that I might understand why each part of the amp needs to be there.

Can you make any good suggestions for reading material?

See under "Reading material on steroids" at the top of the Technical Discussion forum.

Check out London Power's "The Ultimate Tone" series. Expensive but heavy duty. Available at Tubes and More or from Kevin himself at London Power.

I thought both of Merlin Blencowe's books were a pretty good introduction. There is some math. But it is all addition and multiplication :). He covers most things you'd want to know. And he does have a bit of a sense of humor, which I like in technical material.

Another vote for Merlin's books. It's the type of book you can read from cover to cover and yet refer back to it all the time. I've probably read them three or more times.

Another vote here for Merlin.
I have two (power supplies, and preamps).

Just the preamps book is worth the weight in gold.
