Pete Cornish pedals

Buddy let me borrow some gear, including two Pete Cornish pedals, a P-2 and a G-2. Impressions: ugly, clunky boxes, barely-trying graphics glued on slightly askew, and ho-hum germanium fuzz drive sounds. Fine for high-gain, "soaring" or "singing" leads, but not great for rhythm or any kind of nuanced string work. $25 Danelectro pedals sound similar. $800 to $1000 on eBay. Ho, lee, shit.

over rated.......he is the 'go to guy' for the brit stars...that's why they get the big $
all the DIY guys have far surpassed his talent....

I don't know, I built the G2 according to the schematic that's floating around, great pedal imo, sure.. it's not great for rhythm, but i think a good rhythm sound is easy to achieve without pedals.

also note that his pedals are mainly for the clean channel only type amps

I think they sell for close to that directly from Cornish himself. That much money for a germanium fuzz is excessive. Anyone who would pay that deserves what he gets, IMO. I found about 50 germanium transistors not long ago for 10 cents apiece and built a few nice fuzz faces. I used boards from GGG, nice product BTW, and the total cost was about $40/piece. Only thing left to do now is put some decals on crooked and add an $800 price tag. It's like selling perfume except there is a lot less PMS involved.

and what did it cost in parts...how far removed is the design from other stock designs..i.e. what special herb or spice is in that circuit that stands out from others? Does it it 'that one thing that no other does'? Definitely NOT worth $800-$1k

in parts around 60$ if you use some high quality parts plus shipment, not 800$ worth for sure.

I don't think ANY pedal is worth more than 200$ if it isn't tube based + transformers.

for around 300$ you can buy a champ kit or whatever and get a much better distortion than an IC/transistor driven pedal

Actually many pros use off-the shelf bone stock pedals.
