Vox AC30 chassis

Post by Dr-Joned »

Does anyone have any sources for the AC30 chassis. I know that Weber makes a similar one, but I would like one more "authentic"

I think the weber one is about as authentic of an off-the-shelf AC30 as you will find. You might try posting this question over at http://vintageamps.com/plexiboard/index.php I seem to remember someone there who builds these amps sometimes that might know something. ( could that be any more vague ?)

Anyways, I've always thought this was one of THE amps of rock, but building an exact copy seems very complicated ( do you really want the vibrato channel ?) I think you could make a cool amp by fusing the topboost channel of an AC30/6 and the EF86 channel of an AC30/4 into one amp, but I geuss Matchless, amoung others, already had the same idea.

Here's some cool AC30 stuff:

AC30/4 from Steve Ahola's site : http://www.blueguitar.org/new/schem/vox/ac34ef86.pdf

AC30/6 from Steve :

Interesting article about Top Boost mod :

It is amazing that there isn't a dead on AC-30 clone chassis, the transformers are available, but not the chassis.

New here, but as I was signing off your thread title caught my eye. Have you seen or perhaps even played the limited reissue hand-wired AC30 that Vox has out now? It even comes in the old 'luggage" vinyl covering. A true beauty in both looks and sound. I think they said it was only mid $2kUS in price.

Anyhow, I wish you the best in any efforts AC or related. Forget Matchless -- personally, I didn't care for their approach, alterations and the final sound.

Someone else needs to do it. Look around and see all the cloning of so many other makes and models, yet the AC30 seems to get overlooked. I've never been able to understand all of why. . . .
