Need song suggestions

Post by stelligan »

I grew up in a musical family in the 60's and 70's. My sister always wanted to sing in our rock band, but brother John wouldn't have it. "Chicks can't play Rock&Roll".

She went off to find other gigs:

Forty years later I guess it's cool to let her sing in the band...

Anyway, we are starting to record tunes and looking for song ideas. Jimbo plays bass & sings, John plays drums & sings, Julie plays guitar & sings, I play guitar, sax & sing. Think blues/rock/soul quartet with vocals. We'll be doing some original tunes and some covers. Looking for duets and songs that lend themselves to heavy harmonies. We want to rock some, too. Thoughts so far are: Bee Gees - To Love Somebody, Stylistics - You Are Everything, Stones - Gimme Shelter, Neil Young - Only Love Can Break Your Heart......

Thanks for any and all suggestions. Here are some scratch tracks with drum loops, GR-55, and some singing:

Thanks guys! Just what I was hoping for. Songs I haven't though of.

Nick - Julie, Exene, and John Doe are pals. She sings on Exene's "Running Scared" CD. Burning House of Love is a great tune...... I was not hip to Barricades & Brick Walls

This is a kick-ass song by a local Seattle band. This is them in a local tavern down the road, and the quality is not great. Seeing them live is awesome.

Some suggestions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VsY_h7CBbY (probably needs a different key, but it fits the 60's/modern vibe)

Put your own spin on it.

Wow, she sang with Leonard Cohen and Robben Ford?

I'd say she has her creds!
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!
