Yes, it is distracting to have to convert unfamiliar units. I've listened to a few panel discussions on the issue this last week.
The
Stuff that is being spread to the public via "news" and "information" seems heavily skewed to stir yet more fear.

Ever seen the radiation map for the U.S. and world?
The U.S. and other parts of the world have been exposed to ionizing radiation and other Shell oil contaminations for years.
DTRA, NRC and EPA have lots of data on this subject.
