Granger amps

Post by Bruciep07 »

Anyone have any experience with granger? I spend some time over at the sloclone forum and there is a guy over there (smashguitar) that has made a few runs of pc boards for members over there and sells them cheap. I don't know anything about their relationship so I won't jump to any conclusions, but I was checking out some granger stuff on YouTube today, and I'll be damned if he isn't using smash's preamp board for his lead overdrive 100 amp. Smash's board has a sloclone screenprint with "forbidden for commercial use" right under it. On the granger amp, there is a hand written sticker overtop of where this would be. Again, I'm not accusing anyone of anything as I don't know their relationship, however, I do know that smash never intended to make money on these boards, it's his layout, not an exact copy of a slo, and if this dude is buying smash's boards and using his layout commercially, I think it's pretty lame... I know, I know, it's a clone website, blah blah blah... Just sayin...

The Granger amps sound pretty good and I know that smashguitar provides a lot of information for people and provides boards as well as other major players of that Forum.

I have no comments about the rest of your post. They are cloning and some are going beyond cloning an making the amp their own designs.

I agree, all of the Granger amps I heard on youtube sounded great, and the OT shoot-out they did a while back was cool... I really did like the sound of the slo copy, but is it his work is is it smash's work? Maybe I shouldn't have posted this, I don't want to start another debate on who's right and who's wrong, they are all clones of someone's work in one way or another... That said, I know if someone bought up a bunch of Dana's lil devil boards back when he was selling them, turned around and put a "Lil Monster" sticker over his label and marketed them under a different name, I don't think he'd be happy about it. I honestly don't know why this got me so worked up...
