Ceracap

Post by C Moore »

I am doing a cap job and some other things on an old (1965?) Scott stereo amp. It has Ceracap coupling capacitors. Were they a pretty decent product in their day? I was thinking of replacing them with "orange drops" just because they are 45 years old. Any opinions?

Only if they are leaky.
Otherwise I wouldn't touch them.

I have a bunch of Ajax that look like those.
Never tested them though.

These must be filmcaps of some sort...probably just as good as drops...maybe even better ...?
No need to replace unless faulty

Yeah, they are probably good caps.

I had a friend with an old blackface Fender.
He took it into be serviced when he bought it. Caps, three prong, general health check.

He got it back and the guy had replaced all the blue molded Astrons with orange drops.....
My friend didn't know the difference and I didn't have the heart to tell him.
