solder in the tube sockets

I have not seen this subject brought up...maybe it's just me. But has any one else had problems with solder getting into the tube sockets preventing the tubes from going in? New build. I first noticed it happening on some octal sockets I wired. I fixed that Then it happened on some nine pin sockets. Am I putting too much solder on the connections?

Yep, that's happening because you are applying too much solder when you are soldering to the pin, it blobs up then runs down inside the pin holder.

Good luck getting it out. Might be able to suck it out with a solder sucker or tipping the board upside down and giving it a gentle whack when the solder is molten.

That's what I figured. I cleaned the octal sockets that way. Got to be more careful!

You could try this-

If you have a tube you don't care for, insert it slowly as you heat up the socket from the other side. As the solder melts, you slowly inset the pins as far as they will go. Then wiggle a bit until there is as little solder left as possible.
Will probably always have a thin layer, but at least no oxidation
