Circut optomized for a 6k6 output tube?

Post by Schwebel »

I asked earlier about SS rectifiers in a 5f1/2 circut and think I have crossed that hurdle. My goal is to build a low powered recording/bedroom amp, my 5 watters are just too loud turned up. I'm am not looking for much headroom or cleans from this amp. I'm looking for something close to 1/2-1 watt. So I thought why not build a 6K6 powered amp.

What I have right now is a Champion 600 Reissue transformer (the specs on the back are 275v 6.3v). It does not have a center tap or a 5v tap.

I was hoping to use a champ circut 5c1/5e1/5f1. My question is will one of these circuts with a SS rectifier and this transformer have too much plate voltage for a 6k6GT? And also is an octal or 9pin preamp tube best for something with a 6k6GT. Are there any circuts out there made for this tube I could use? Or any prefered mods on a champ circut? Any links to specs for a 6k6? Thanks for any help.

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird , and they take Prozac to make it normal.

6k6 has a design center max plate voltage of 315 v
the typical operating values of 285 v at the plate and will make around
10 watts as a push pull pair with a 12k load resistance.
The RCA data also gives A1 operating conditions where plate and screen are
supplied with 100v and a 12k load with a single tube making 0.3 watts.
so if the right OPT where found you could make a P-P 6k6 based 1W
amp, maybe even with a transformerless power supply, very retro.

You can add another node to your PS at the front. Compare the first schematic to this one. You would adjust R10 upwards to lower your B+.
