ID-ing old parts?

Post by JJGross »

I recently came into a box of stuff from the estate of a TV-radio repair guy and I have no idea what some of this stuff is. These are polarized so my guess is capacitors with values on them. Maybe diodes, but I've never seen diodes remotely like these so caps are my first guess.

Anyone recognize some of this stuff? Possibly decipher the codes on them? Any good for amp building?

Cheers,
- JJ

Part #1 - first view:

Part #1, rotated to show more numbers:

Part #2, similar to first one, much smaller size:

Box of these and other NOS parts including what I know are diodes, but unlike any I've ever used before. Maybe really high voltage from TVs or something? Some of these look like they might actually be gold plated - no tarnishing whatsoever. Some of those have all black printing, others all red printing.

I would suspect a capacitor for the first, just due to the polarity marking.
The second looks like a fuse.

The box....mostly diodes.

I agree, lots of them look like really old skool fuses to me...

I don't think the smaller ones are fuses, they're polarized just like the long ones and have very similar markings.
Examples of the markings on the long ones are 212-48 & 212-85 (slightly fatter in diameter).
For the short ones they're all 212-68 except one marked 034C01 (also polarized).

Would these be 212v caps @ 48uf, 68uf & 88uf?

I've worked on several old organs & radios as well as amps and I can't recall ever seeing anything quite like these in any of them.

Cheers

I'd suggest a multimeter with a cap setting is your new best friend...

They look like high voltage resistors used in old TV's to me. Their was a focus diode in TV's that looked like the longer one too.
