This site has some good info on 2 different SE 6V6 amps, one is a 5f2 Princeton which is similar, lots of good info. Just go to the 'How To section'.

Instructions...I don't need no stinkin instructions
Re: i want to build a champ
I just built my first amp "Fender Champ". If I could do it over again I'd use a champ "black face" schematic: it has a treble and bass pot. The 5E1 champ only has a volume control. Also get a NOS rectifier. It will keep voltages down. And make sure your Power Transformer is lower than 300v and your Output transformer is 15 watts or so.

www.stf-electronics.com has great kits at great prices. Pat Bunn (owner) also provides a step-by-step instruction book with his kits, plus he's really good at responding to emails if you get stuck.

In the 5E1s favor: The volume control is all you need. Tweeds kick ass. I wish I'd known that when I was a youngster messin' around with early black panel Champs.Travis wrote:I just built my first amp "Fender Champ". Tweed drawbacks: The circuit is cool but the chassis is tiny.
Black panel assets: A little more complicated but easier to wire.
Black panel drawbacks: Once you go tweed you never go back! That and your kit choices are limited.
I wouldn't concern myself with output transformers. I use literally anything that looks like it will work. It's the "magic eight ball" of tone, the good news is that I've stumbled on a few killer combinations. The bad news is that some of the iron I use is literally the only one of that type I'm ever likely to see. If it's killer I probably can't duplicate it. Not easily, anyway.
Kits are like cats... they all look alike to me. In the dark, anyway.jimipage wrote:www.stf-electronics.com has great kits at great prices. Pat Bunn (owner) also provides a step-by-step instruction book with his kits, plus he's really good at responding to emails if you get stuck.
Seriously, when it comes to Champ kits I'd sort by black panel or tweed then go for the best price. It's not a difficult parts set to put together a la carte, the big pieces are the chassis and the PT. I can put the rest toegether outta crap swept up off the floor but that's just me. It helps that I have 12AX7s on my window sills and in my sugar bowl, I have 6V6s in the ashtray in my car. If you get into this you will too, next year.

Go over to AX84.com, go to Classic projects, open P1 amp, open Builder's guide..Pretty good write up with pictures of what you are going to have to do.
