Grid stoppers

i just noticed something i never noticed before. I have tried this many times. But today i put a rather large GS on a preamp grid as i saw in a badcat schematic, and it caused the low end to get fuzzy. Why is this? I never noticed it before, tho i have usually used smaller ones. I have tried 470k's before tho once or twice and maybe i just didn't leave it long enough to notice what it did to the lows. But i didn't.
