Tube badges

Post by Ears »

Given there are only about half a dozen large tube manufacturers throughout Europe and China can a reference list be compiled here for those of us, such as myself, who constantly loose track of all the re-badging that goes on.

For instance I keep forgetting where Elektro H are made (Sovtek, Svetlana or JJ) are Groove Tube just rebranded EH?

As for Chinese, well, colourful dragons abound, but how many major manufacturers are there? Are they made in a few large factories or contracted out to bit players. [edit: removed a wisecrack of poor taste]
We've just had Chinese KT88s and other power tubes hit the market here at about US$20 each.

Would be nice to be able to keep track of all these brands in one thread.

tubes

Post by M Fowler »

My local store informed me what I already knew that Fender bought Groove Tubes but they said that Fender can't supply any tubes at this time so no shipments are coming. I said order some JJs or EH but they said that when they were dealing with these companies they could only order 50 of one type no mix and match. Now Moorhead Minnesota is a small town bordered with Fargo North Dakota so I said I would get my own sources, hate to not buy local but what the heck.

Good idea on the list would be good as some of the tubes the guys talk about I am not familiar with and not all companies carry the same types of tubes. I think I will start searching to see what sort of list I can come up with too.

That's not true about tubes from New Sensor. I have a dealer account there if anyone wants stuff. Their lines are:

Sovtek
Electro Harmonix
Tung Sol
Mullard
Svetlana
Genalex Gold Lion

They also deal in JJ and Sino Chinese tubes.

They also sell amp parts, pedals, etc.
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!

I don't follow you, how does this list contradict the information about New Sensor on that website?

Aren't Tung Sol and EH now rebranded Russion tubes?
