Terminal Strips vs Circuit Board...what are your thoughts?

Post by FunkyE9th »

I did my 1st build using terminal strips. Now I'm planning on using a circuit board (turret board material not the fiberboard used on old fenders) with eyelets on the next build, cuz I think it will be cleaner look. As I plan the layout, I'm having second thoughts of using a board. I'm thinking it will be harder to maintain the amp with circuit boards, harder to swap parts and experiment. If I have to switch the OT, the mounting screws will be under the board, making it more of a pain. I supposed, if the circuit is not changing and the amp is well designed, swapping parts will not be an issue and will not require significant maintenance.

Anyway just curious....What are your thought on terminal strips vs circuit boards?

both work great....... it depends more upon your expectations of your design
intention and execution...... the same circuits will look very differntly
so layout for each requires its own conception.....

If it is an experimental design the terminal strips are going to provide better access for tweaking.
Eyelet boards can be a pain in the behind for swapping out different components. Turret boards a little less so.

I guess I'll continue with the plan of using a board. I need to at least give it chance and see how it goes. I might drill holes on the board, depending on space, so that I can expose the OT screws/nut. Hopefully it will allow for OT replacement without having to remove the board.
