Taping off a transformer tap - Any good tips?
Has anyone got any good suggestions or tips of the best way/best practise, to 'tape off' an unwanted secondary tap of a PT, so that it remains safe as far as any electrical safety regulations might dictate?
Or are there any threads that you have seen or created that show good examples?
Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I cut the two wires off at uneven intervals (1/4" is fine). I shrink wrap each end and then put both ends in a bigger piece of shrink wrap. works very good.

Do that and then pinch the end of the shrink while still hot and it will seal the end.Allynmey wrote:I cut the two wires off at uneven intervals (1/4" is fine). I shrink wrap each end and then put both ends in a bigger piece of shrink wrap. works very good.

Pinch that end with a pair of needle nose pliars. Otherwise ouch.

MattSome people can learn from reading about others mistakes. Some people learn from seeing someone else do something stupid. But, dammit, most people earn a trip to the emergency room before they believe that the stove really IS hot.

i snip[ the end, if the end is stripped, then i fold the wire at the end about and inch. then slide approproate size shrink wrap onto the folded wire, letting the fold stick out the end. shrink, and you are done. looks wicked, IMO.

Supposedly you can remove the bottom end bell on a PT and stuff the unused wires in there, then put the cover back on.
Of course you should still heat shrink the ends of the wires.
My PT is an international so it has the dual primaries.
I looked the PT over (Heyboer) and I decided to not take the end bell off.
Didn't want to screw anything up

Do people ever wire in a voltage selector to go between 120VAC and 240VAC?
