These guys in Beijing are pumpin' out 3x12AX7-2x6l6-1x12" finger jointed wood combos for 5 bills and 12AX7 overdrive pedals for less than 90$.

What's the world comin to???

Could this be MonteZuma's revenge????

They even have a 160W amp. Looks cool. I wonder how it sounds.

No shame at all. It's a 2203. Yeah, right. I'll bet it's got a poorly made PCB with board mounted sockets. Wait until you want to change the tubes and adjust the bias....

there seems to be a fair amount of OEM tube amp manufacturing going on in china - scary part is, i played a couple of them at musikmesse, and they didn't sound too shabby at all. definitey NOT as good as a 2203, a überschall or a wreck... but FAR from bad.

i distinctly remember one exhibitor called eleca that actually offered me a head - 3x 12AX7, 2x EL34 for €150 on the spot - i only turned it down because a. i couldn't use 50W (hell, i've never even cranked my 5W tube radio-modded-amp unless i knew my neighbours weren't around) and b. i didn't feel like lugging 25 kg by train back home.

that being said, the 50W amp in your link weighs 13.2 kg including the speaker - miniature magnet, tiny trannies? you get what you pay for, i suppose. and hope.

Are you guys tryin' to wind me up?

I'll bet there will be takers. A whole cult following will spring up to fix the thing's pimples and warts. Mercury Magnetics will sell a transformer retro-kit for the thing. Some joker will sell ya little bits of wire and a couple resistors as "mod kits", you can buy 'em at said joker's eBay Store.

'Course, I'm not Nostradamus, I don't need no freaky-deeky crystal ball to tell y'all the future. This thing is cheap now but once every Yankee dollar the Fed can print ends up in the Far East... the dollar will be the Global Joke Currency. See the trend? You won't be able to gather up enough U.S. dollars to pay for that amp, dollars won't be worth nuthin'.

OT but... don't like four buck a gallon gasoline? If the dollar was worth a damn it wouldn't be four bucks a gallon. Put that in yer pipe and smoke it!

Interesting....I live in Beijing, I need to check it out first hand.

Contrary to some beliefs, there acctually IS some good stuff coming out of China, the problem is most people don't see it. If I se my personal amp building experience, I would venture the following.

1. It's a copy of an existing circuit. The lonliest position in China is to be head of Reasearch and Development

2. All parts will be domestic. I would be suspect of the transformers as this is the single biggest headache I have.

3. The cabinet will be well put together but the wood will be crap.

4. May or may not be PC board. Getting someone to handwire something here is not a problem and may actually be cheaper.

5. The speaker will be crap.

If I can locate these guys, I'll take a look. If nothing else, its a fairly low cost platform to strip and replace with better componants.

Funny enough, there is a fairly large underground rock and blues community here in Beijing. However, like everything else, the equipment tends to be cheap (Squire is considered high end). Sam Ashe has a big store in BJ.
