Traynor head

Post by C Moore »

We have a traynor YBA-3A bass head. Do you guys know of a good place to get 6KG6A power tubes. This head requires a matched quad.
Thank You

Well isn't that an oddball tube!

They're

A) extinct

and

B) expensive -IF- you find them.

At a glance it looks like you have two choices... pay around $45.00 each for NOS OR use the TAD EL509 sub and rewire at the socket. The TADs cost 20 Euros each which makes them roughly a $40.00 tube here, that's not much help.

If it was my amp I'd swap to something more readily available even if I had to replace a transformer to make it work. It's not like these tubes are going to be any easier to get in the future.

Oh yeah, remind me not to buy one of those amps unless I'm going to use it for parts. What a PITA!

They have single tubes there. I've done business with this company before. A+. If e-mail them they may be able to match.

Well, yeah. There's your $45.00 each NOS 6KG6s which makes $180 for the quartet plus shipping. Then there's no guarantee youll ever see those tubes again, I'd bet against it. Unless it's a customer's amp and your customer insists on absolute originality $45.00 each for old horizontal output tubes is a lot of money.

$25 apiece.

I've never dealt with the seller before, but it's the best price I could find.

Talk to the Sarge (AKA tube tramp), he might be able to hook you up with something reasonable. He has a load of oddball (but cool) tubes.
