Proper Voltage Measurement Techniques.

Post by Structo »

I'm trying to get my plate voltages on my D'Lite 44 ( 6L6 ) dialed in.

When you guys say that you have 200v on the V1 plates, are you talking about the actual measurement on say pin 6 of the tube?

Or are you taking that number and subtracting the cathode voltage when you say you have 200v on the plate?

I just want to make sure that when I say I have say 240v on pin 6 that, that is the number I should be referencing.
Thanks
Tom

I'm sure most voltages are measured relative to ground - it's the normal way to measure voltages and mark them on layouts and schematics.

Technically - plate voltage, as used on data sheets, is measured relative to the cathode voltage. But in general, things are measured relative to ground.

The D'lite voltages are measured to ground. You're correct in that the "proper" way to measure a plate voltage is with respect to the cathode, but the voltages commonly listed here are referenced to ground.
