I just picked this up. Anybody seen Thiel/Small parameters on these? Is it a closed back only animal? I was thinking about sticking it in an open back with a four ohm G12M-70 I got in order to make an eight or four either/or cabinet.

Ouch, G12M-70's in an open back cab? Dont know that I'd do that, but then again, I strongly dislike 70's. The speaker you linked to is the budget line that Marshall puts in their AVT cabs. Look at the size of the magnet, it's tiny...

Hey Dan - I just think Celestion has made much better speakers and I associate the 70 with hair bands of the '80's. It was part of their evolution towards higher wattage speakers; some have a good reputation others not so much. The predecessor to the 70 was the G12M-65, which sounds a lot like a greenback G12M-25. The 70 however sounds nothing like the greenback. It was followed by the G12M-75, and etc...
I prefer the 55hz G12H-30, which was the speaker loaded into bass cabs of the Hendrix/Cream era. Other prefer the greenback, the G12M-25. Neither of which is a high wattage speaker - which may be why they sound better to me - thinner cone materials and less doping make them react faster/differently. Oddly enough, I do like the G12H-100 when I need a high wattage speaker.
These days I'm using Scumback reproductions of the G12H-30, available from: http://www.southbayampworks.com/speakers.html

Thanks Doc. I'm just a speaker junkie. I haven't even stuck my G12M-65 in a box yet. Buy buy buy. Never sell. That's my motto.
