One of the young guys at church just bought a well-worn Peavey Classic 50 4x10 amp. To help encourage him in his guitaring endeavors, I agreed to give it a tune up for only the parts cost. So I'm gonna replace the filters and do a general clean up.
This amp is gonna be interesting to work on, being a pcb with ribbon wire amp. I honestly don't know how tube amps made with 1/4 watt resistors survive! I mean, I've worked on 9V stompboxes built with better components than this amp. Alas, it is what it is.
In the effort to make it better than it came to me, do y'all have any suggestions for livening up this sort of amp? I was thinking of changing some plate resistors to nicer ones and swapping some tone caps out for better (better=not chosen because they're machine stuffable) caps. I've attached the schematic for your perusal.
