source for rack mounts?

Post by briane »

Does anyone have a source for rack mount enclosures?

Nothing too fancy, but I would like a 2U or 3U. Planning on drilling it out myself, faceplate DIY, etc...

Cant really find anything out there that would work, short of gutting something else, and if I am going to do that I would probably be better off building the rackmount myself, say from a hammond box and some strong AL plate for the front/mounts.

This is for a project for building a rackmount pre-amp.

thanks,
brian

Brian,
I was considering something like what is shown here at one point:

Good luck,

Yeah, thats what I mean with DIY....Can be made to look good, but its a lot of work. I'd like something just a tad more...Industrial (well professional, but not exactly the right word).

What I am really after is a blank 2U rack mount unit, preferably something like you would expect to get from mouser or like.

If I can ask, Funk, where do you get your rack mount chassy's?

I've gotten transformers from Antek before. Good service. Not sure what S&H is for the enclosures, but they're decent on the xfmrs.

Par-Metal. I've dealt with these guys before. I sent back an enclosure I wasn't happy with and never got a refund from them. I had to go through my credit card company to get the refund. But, many peeps I know have had no problems with them - as long as you don't return them, I guess

LOL, I just realized that Antek and Par-Metal are related. Well, I bought my xfmrs (recently) through Antek (ebay) without a hitch. My dealings with Par-Metal was a long time ago.

Briane,

Try here:
thats awesome, exactly what I am looking for kec...and a decent price to boot.

Just drill, paint, label, build, and instantaneous rack mount amp.

I was getting so close to stripping that 5kv Ion pump current supply in the garage for the rack mount (seriously....its salvaged material), but for 60 duckets this is a far better choice. The end product will look awesome

thanks for the info guys! ;-)

I bought a 4u off of them last year. Great quality and price. It is my main proto-typing chassis.
