'59 Magnatone resto under way...

Post by nuke »

Well, this one has been in the back of my garage for over 20 years, waiting its turn. 1959 Magnatone 260A. When I got it, I verified the electronics work, even the warbly tremolo system. Sent the original 12K5R speakers off to Weber back then for reconing.

The amp unfortunately it sat in water or on a wet barn floor, and ruined the bottom of the cabinet. It was pretty much falling apart and very dirty.

But I have everything, even the footswitch and the little "V" emblem for the grill.

The baffle board and grill cloth were surprisingly good, so I'm re-using it. The upper rear cover and the top are potentially re-usable.

I had to teach myself how to do "cabinet making" with an inexpensive job-site table saw. Lots of test cuts, careful setting up of the saw and re-setting it up. And then of course, the finer points of wood working.

Nice work!

You will be very happy with it .
When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming like the passengers in his car!

Cutting out a man's tongue does not mean he’s a liar, but it does show that you fear the truth he might speak about you!
