Scope upgrade... great for old guys!

A friend gave me an old, early digital Tektronix scope with a dead back-light last year which had been retired to the dumpster where he worked. Even after being repaired, it was quite hard to see, so I didn't really use it as much as I might have liked, as I am a novice when it comes to oscilloscopes. My eyesight isn't too bad, but I do use readers when working on amp projects.

In the meantime, I had seen some YT vids about the newer Rigols & while I will probably not use many of it's capabilities, a few of the things that stood out to me were more related to ergonomics. The VESA mounting, the HDMI-out & the USB.

So I ordered one of the 70MHz 4-channel units & along with an extra 25" LED TV I had on-hand, I now have a very readable, large-format display. A computer monitor would have worked as well (or better) but the TV was in-stock.

To streamline the whole thing, I built a ply top for a retired bakery/kitchen cart, mounted a vertical post on one corner & added 2 very inexpensive TV mounts to the post, so both the scope & the TV/monitor are in the air; movable & leaving the top beneath them open.

Just wired it up today, so it is not yet in service but it should be a nice, tidy addition to the bench setup. Additionally, the Rigol can use a USB mouse (which I prefer to a touchscreen) & I will also be able to put schematics &/or images up on the screen through a second HDMI input. (TV doesn't have USB for a stick)

DHO804 is what I bought. Sort of the lower-end 4 channel model. I would think that most of the new line would have those same features.

This exhaustive (& exhausting) video is where I first saw the HDMI capability mentioned. He demos the 100MHz version & even mentions that the 70MHz version covers nearly all the same ground for less $$.
