Ampeg R12 Questions....

Post by zozoe »

Greetings,,, first off I thought they'de put different value resistors on the inputs, but maybe that how it was done back then..... Mainly, are there any not terribly invasive tweaks, either to preamp section, or further down the line to give it some more OD kick? Also the 6V6's are running really hot as does the surrounding chassis...
So cooling those down a bit, & some value changes that would make it growl sooner.....
Thanks in advance....

This is not a kick ass growling OD amp. It's a well-mannered warm sounding amp. Love it for what it is or give it to someone that will appreciate it.

In complete agreement with the above!
If a vintage amp is in good shape but not to your liking then don't screw with, just get the parts needed to build yourself what the heck you want .

There's plenty of spent garbage Peavey amps and others out there to pick up and use as a starter for a build and many of them even have good transformers.
