Looking for this tool

Post by Mark »

I have been wanting to have the same quality as Hiwatt builds with the kink in the component leads. Do you guys know where I might be able to find such a tool?

This is what the tool looks like. DigiKey use to sell them.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hakko has several lead forming tools. Here's one...

If not the correct one just search for electronic component lead forming tool.

This is the reply from TE when I tried to purchase the tool.

“ Hello,

We thank you for this request, however, the Manufacturer will not allow the export of this equipment.

Please select another brand.”

They aren’t making it easy.

I purchased a bunch of Hakko stuff from amazon.jp a while ago when the conversion rates were favorable. Perhaps you could find one there, or some other Japanese store? I bet shipping is cheaper than ordering from the states.

Do a google search for "Hakko PNR-5000-D Lead Forming/Cutting Tool". This is the exact one in your posted pic.

Thanks for the tip. I’m chasing that up now.

TE got back to me and suggested Excelta 554TB-US - Stress Relief Forming Plier, 5.5", Carbon Steel which cost $252 as opposed to $30.00

I don’t doubt the Excelta stuff is good, it’s a lot to pay for such a tool.

FWIW there's a goot (brand--Taiyo Electric Industries) YP-201AS that shows up on Google searches (here in Japan) which appears similar (same?) :

Also, this one showed up via Google image search, a "Piergiacomi PTR30L (the original Italian maker/brand?)" (relatively close to you in NZ but unfortunately none avail.) :

(okay, something in AUS for $28,80) :

(another one in AUS (3 in stock!) :

I hope it's okay to hijack this thread. Seems the OP found something in Australia.

I'm looking for something available in the USA. But I have a few questions.

I found a pair that had the kink forming part, but the jaws were bent at a 45 degree angle. I assume that would be to avoid cutting the lead, which is a feature I want.

Does anybody know of a source in the states for this tool?
EDIT: apparently I can get them here:

https://www.techni-tool.com/product/HAK ... D-PNR-30-D
I don't want to order it without insuring it's does what I want.
