I read an Aiken Amps article about the Miller Effect and how one way to reduce this is to lower the gain of each stage.
My somewhat heavily modified SF Champ uses a 10K cold clipper on the 2nd stage. To make up the gain loss from the lack of a bypass cap, I bypassed the tone stack as well as changed the 1st stage bias resistor to 2.7K and the plate load to 220K.
I'm happy with the overall gain and distortion. It's far from heavy, but that's what I like. I really dig the tone, but why not improve it if possible. I also use a 12AX7.
I'm wondering if I can improve high end response/reduce the Miller Effect by adding a 3rd gain stage between the existing 1st and 2nd stage, but use lower value 1.5K bias resistors (and maybe no bypass caps) and 100K plate load resistors on the first 2 gain stages as well as use a lower gain preamp tube, such as a 12AT7. I could play with the values in order to try to get the same amount of gain as it has now if this would even work.
Would this produce a better high end response?
Also, keep in mind that the only info I have about what the Miller Effect ACTUALLY is is just from that ONE article, so I'm a total noob on the subject.

Re: SF Champ 3rd Gain Stage, but Not For More Gain
I think most of us use it to kill ultrasonics.. maybe in supergain amps later in circuit..
Tiny first coupler is simple way to dump bass, which sounds like relatively increasing the highend.
Without regard to anything else a Champ is limited in bandwidth for so many reasons. Are you looking for a range boost at like 2k or like 4k? The 2k can do but the 4k is not as likely. You might find a speaker that is scoopy and makes you happier? Poly coned and overrated..

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

I'm not necessarily trying to get more high end out of the amp, I was just curious.
What are some things that limit the bandwidth?
