Peavey 6505 sounds like crap
Hey everybody, new guy here. I have a plethora of amps tube and solid state. I just recently bought a 6505 60 watt 1/12 combo. I've tried everything to get some kind of tone out of it but to no avail. Im curious if maybe i got a lemon or if this is common with these amps. As it stands now its absolutely my last choice

I imagine you'll have more replies to this thread at *gasp* thegearpage.net ... but have you tried turning the gain all the way down, tone controls to noon, and master volume to max, then edge the gain up to get a good clean sound? Does it sound OK as a clean amp? First thing it to figure out if it's healthy, right?

Is the bias switch set right for the type of outputs it has in it?
These amps have a lot of hiss even when there just starting to get into high gain territory.
They have a shit load of 1/4 watt plate resistors where they should have 1/2 waters!
They where also made gain structure wise for the average Russian made 12ax7 that never test out new much about 80% out of 100.
So one really good testing preamp tube in the wrong spot can make for a mess of hiss and noise!
