18 watt zwreck style amp

Post by wsaraceni »

built an amp based on the z wreck but 2 output tubes and used 18 watt marshall style transformers. trying to figure out why it sounds like garbage. where do you start?

1. post the schematic you used
2. post detailed photo's of the amp as built
3. explain what 'sounds like garbage' means in more concrete terms? The tone is off, there is distortion when it should be clean? The output is low? There are oscillations?

If you don't have an exact schematic because you swapped the output section, then post the original schematic and then write up what changed exactly in the power section... i.e. what grid stoppers, what screen resistors, 18W is often 6V6 tubes, but you didn't mention exactly, that's what I'm assuming. is it cathode biased or grid biased etc.

The post you have now gives almost 0 information to anyone here to know where to start.

Times 2 on the more info needed, other wise it like a cook asking why his 30 ingredient Soup taste like crap!

That being said, one thing you can do is to swap the wires on the plates of your two output tubes.
The result maybe it’s fixed, or it will even sound like worse crap!
