Possible Master or Gain Increase Mod?

Post by zozoe »

Hi all~ I'm not sure if that more detailed one is for my amp, but that preamp tube setup is... Are there any feasible thoughts on a functional, NON tone sucking master for it? OR, a component's or 2 or 3 values to change to it give much more gain at a lower level?
Amp has 2xEL74, 2xAX7's, & 5U4,,,,

Thnx in advance

Please do not create duplicate threads. I'm deleting the other. I can see your images just fine.

I don't really understand what you're asking, so i didn't respond.

On V1A why do you have a resistor to ground off of the cathode bypass cap?

Also you need to post up a bigger better picture of the schematic and you layout drawing please!

The dupe post was an error, Phil. Kindly forgive, but my question was if the only schemes available to me, tell you anything about the possibility of inserting a master, or some mod for earlier breakup (w/o using those tone-suck attenuators)?
Thnx again, & be well~

Stevem,, this is how the amp was built, with that V1A thing you mentioned,,, I do not have a clearer picture of the entire layout,,, I'm lucky to have this much info.
Thnx

So joining schematic and layout we can say that the amp is:

100k & 1k||(680n + 20k)
10n to 1Mlog vol
100k & 1k5||22u
Tone stack
Loop
Paraphase PI
Power tubes

can you upload the schematic you took a screenshot of instead of the screenshot? zooming in it looks like 💩 all pixelated

Convert the paraphase into a concertina and use the free triode, get rid of the loop and squeeze some more gain.

Those mods will help gain wise, but the end result is the amp will still be nearly just as unusable loud for him!

He needs a master volume, or to power scale the amp which requires a master volume anyway!

The third thing would be to try a good sounding distortion stomp box in that non buffered effects loop, or just in front of the amp to begin with,

Get a 50w L-pad from Amazon and use as speaker attenuator.
