Gregg Clark Dumble/Dunble 100w EL34 head
Recently picked up this monster of an amp from guitar center the first day they opened after covid only to remember why i haven't used gc in years... it had 3 blown power tubes and 2 blown pre. Thanks to Jack at rocknroll amps it was fixed super quick and now has replaced all my other amps as my go to! Looking for any info on who made it or what model dumble its inspired by? It has el34 power tubes and 12ax7 pre. Its super heavy at around 45 pounds and has a massive output transformer. Please let me know if anyone has any info on who the builder might be.
Thanks

Congratulations on the purchase. The amp isn't a HRM, there are a lot of relays in the amp, five as opposed to the customary two. I thought the #183 had EL-34's and a regular Dumble preamp.

Thanks! I posted on some fb group and they mentioned that model too. Guess time to do more research!

My guess it's a snake by the name of Boldaslove6789 (Gred D Clark) a very untrustworthy ex-Ampgarage member.

Mark, what do you mean by it's a snake?
I'm not familiar with this term. Greg Clark proved to be a snake.

You and Mark F are on the same page. He's referring to the builder, not the amp.

Re: Gregg Clark Dumble 100w EL34 head
Searching for his name and amps I get references to this site and another forum about amps both talking about a debacle. (some kind of snake oil mess I'm guessing?)
https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index ... o.1179203/
and here on ampgarage:

I don't on the other hand, see anything on the his website about any dumble clones, I went through the web archive archive.org and still found nothing about it. His site only talks about doing tweed and blackface fender clones and JTM 45 clones.
Sorry there doesn't seem to be much out there... maybe he prototyped a few amps like this and decided it wasn't worth it?
It would require trying to comb over the entire amp and figure out every component value to determine which kind of amp it seemed to replicate, and even then it might not... Sorry there's not much info out there... on the other hand, do you like how the amp sounds?

The initials on the second to last photo in the top post seem like they could just as easily be “GFC” as “GDC.” Have you guys that are saying this is Gregg Clark, seen this logo elsewhere? Or just taking a guess?
Alex, this looks like someone has combined a Dumble amp with a Dumbleator (normally a separate buffered effects loop unit) and also added some relays, probably to make more features foot-switchable. (Did it come with the footswitch?). Most likely it’s based on one of the several Overdrive Special serial numbers whose circuitry has been photographed and traced and gone into general circulation. If it’s important to you to know exactly what it is, a good tech should be able to look at it and compare it to the known Dumble variants and figure it out. If you posted a bunch of super clear, super well lit, super close up photos of the amp interior, some here *might* take a stab at deciphering it - but no guarantees.

Re: Gregg Clark Dumble 100w EL34 head
Thanks for the help. I was just trying to figure out some things about it i didnt quite understand and thought if i could find who might of built it or which one it was based off. This is my first D-style amp so i wasnt sure what to expect, i have played through a 100 watt plexi and a LP tweed twin. So far i like how it sounds but am not a huge fan of the speakers im playing through (4x12 greenback and 4x12 v30). The amp has a lot of bass in it which i like but i havent had enough time playing with it. Im a big fan of the OD channel and the clean channel, but not the clean channel with the voice toggle pulled. Not sure if the is supposed to be a fat switch or rock, jazz switchpompeiisneaks wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 6:30 pm Searching for his name and amps I get references to this site and another forum about amps both talking about a debacle. Thanks for the info. I was curious which model it was based off because i was curious about certain features of the amp. One of those things being that when the effects loop is engaged, i lose a lot a articulation and clarity even with no pedals engaged. If it has a built- in dumbleator, would this account for it or would that be something else. Do i not have the settings correct?drew wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 5:08 am The initials on the second to last photo in the top post seem like they could just as easily be “GFC” as “GDC.” Have you guys that are saying this is Gregg Clark, seen this logo elsewhere? Found this:
https://reverb.com/item/4826417-d-style ... reamp-2013
Looks to be from the same builder, and the initials do seem to more clearly be GDC. The listing says it was recently serviced by the builder. It’s three years old, but you could contact the seller and ask if they have any info on GDC.
As to the loop, it shouldn’t degrade the sound. What settings are you using on the send and return? Was the tube the loop uses one of the ones the tech replaced?

First thing ive seen that looks similar from an exterior standpoint. I posted on a fb group and an amp builder who went by Dunble wiring looks identical to me. The tube was replaced but im starting to think it has to do with my switcherdrew wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 7:44 pm Found this:
