Transformerless Fold-Back Reverb?

Post by Mr. Lime »

Continuing my current amp project I think about adding a simple reverb as I have a left over reverb tank laying around.

I stumbled upon a reverb circuit that's called fold-back reverb which is connected to the OT.
Only one recovery gain stage is required which could be made out of a LND150 mosfet.

Some fellas have reported that this kind of reverb is picky about the voltage divider at the OT and only moderate reverb effect is the result but it seems this is the easiest way to take use of that tank plus have a method that can't be replaced by a stompbox.

The Fender Champ 12 seems to have such a circuit. Are there any other amps known or does someone even have experience with fold-back reverbs?

Look at the Ampeg Echo Twin... https://el34world.com/charts/Schematics ... hotwin.pdf

You may want to experiment with connecting the input of a 8Ω reverb tank to the speaker and connecting the tank output to a separate amplifier. Very nice sounding reverb. This is the arrangement that many old Hammond Organs used. This is the basic idea of the Echo twin.

Thanks for your response, sluckey.

Nice idea, I never realized how much reverb drivers and power amps have in common.
But to keep things simple I would like to feed the reverb output back to a point in front of the PI.

I can imagine that small amps where the power amp is likely to overdrive or Trainwrecks for example would profit from a reverb like this.
Problem might be that high volume is needed to drive the reverb properly, so the reverb effect depends on the output level.
