Hey all,
I'd be interested in hearing any comments on the potential for magnetic flux/radiation in particular, from a 500v 32/32uF filter cap to an output transformer.
In determining good locations for GZ34, choke and two 32/32uF cap cans for a 6V6 plexi, it would be nice to place the 2 can caps at the end of the circuit board where they would be routed to the various power resistor nodes. This does however put one of the cap cans relatively close to the output transformer, perhaps, 1.5 inches away. There are other options, probably a few options to relocate them, even placing them on the inside of the chassis. Another idea I had was to place the cap can closest to the OT that is filtering V1, V2 under the perhaps rouge assumption that there will be far less voltage swing, therefore far less intensity of flux induction withing the closer cap can - as compared to the pure pulsating DC introduced to the other cap can.
My greatest hope is that i'm totally worrying over nothing and can feel confident drilling out the big holes in the chassis!
Thanks, comments extremely welcome!

Re: Filter cap magnetic radiation
Where did you get such an idea? Oh, from Back to the Future?
Don't worry. Be happy. It's all good. Look here...

Re: Filter cap magnetic radiation
Ha, OK, looks like your filter caps and OT are going out on a hot date.
Alright, chill pill it is and drill those holes tonight.
Was your amp fairly quiet?
Thanks Sluckey,
Best,

Very quiet.
Re: Filter cap magnetic radiation
Well then, I haven't a leg to stand on....Thats good news ,
Thank you very much Sluckey, have a good weekend. I'll try to post some pics of my menagerie.

Re: Filter cap magnetic radiation
+1 on the above, no worries on placement of filter caps re: radiated noise.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com
Re: Filter cap magnetic radiation
Thanks xtian, at Neros's for a coffee (or two) and then home to Hole Doze out the two holes for the cap cans. Will be nice to finally wire up the power section and heaters.
My last and first build was closely based on Rob's layout so, less opportunity for futil ruminations. Plus, I work at Zoll Medical (R&D engineering tech), the designers and creators of the leading de-fribulators and ventilators, and constantly surrounded with brilliant engineers speaking the woes of magnetic interference and cross inductions. But, they are not building tube amps are they?!
I'll mention that I got weak last night and sprung for the PEC dual-ganged 100KA pot for the PPIMV that's going into my current Sluckey 6V6 plexi build. (37 bucks, don't even say it) Again, I crumbled for the potential snake oil, just like that $9.00 500fF Sozo SM treble cap. Well, I at least have bragging rights over my master volume knob - whether it is making any difference or not. Sluckey had said that those cheap Alpha's were fair game for his lowly guitar tube amps. That's probably true for all I know.
And while I was on Digikey I also ordered 10 push pins for the Ember Mug base. My wife loves her 130 dollar coffee mug but, those pins don't last long. they are only $8.00 for 10 of them so, A PEC pot and push pins for Ember Mug. Money well spent. Ha, right,
Thanks guys,
PJD3 Phil
