Best Way To Clean Metal Surfaces Inside Amp Chassis

Post by Cathode Ray »

I'm thinking rubbing alcohol and cotton pads, but is there a "best" way to accomplish this without leaving residue/smearing :?:

Thanks :!:

Isopropyl alcohol and elbow grease works for me.

If its rusty, a steel wool pad or fine grit sandpaper inside the chassis doesn't do any harm

If it's a bare chassis then put it in the sink with some hot soapy water. If it's just an old amp that I'd like to clean up a little, then I either (a) leave it alone, or (b) spray it down with deoxit. The deoxit is an expensive solution (no pun) but I know it's safe.

If it's a blank chassis in the sink with ammonia and if it's some old amp I take it to a coin op laundry.

Just kidding. I don't clean old amps innards.

Funk Factor.

I actually use some stuff called "Unky Funk's Tude Loob". Has a picture of Bootsy Collins so surprised you can see his eyes. It's made of BBQ pork lard in a aerosol. Also available in roll-on and suppository. You can buy in on Amazon with a medical weed scrip... or grow a can yourself in 6 states. (so far)

It depends on what the dirtyness is, and partially on the metal itself.
