New production Magnatone varistors

Post by Willabe »

There was a thread some time back were a possible company in England was thought to be where the new Maggy company was buying their varistors from.

Has anymore information been found/confirmed about this?

The company has several vari's, that from their spec sheet, look like they could be used.

The thread proposed only 2 vari's from the company's stock line.

I'd like to buy some to build a Maggy clone with vibrato, but I'm not sure which 1 to buy.

Also if the new Maggy company had to tweak the old vibrato circuit to get them to work/sound best?

Thank you, Willabe/Brad

If you can get exact replacements, that's GREAT!

If you can't, the Varistors in Magnatone amps do just function as variable resistors. Modest circuit rework can make the same sounds using LEDs and LDRs. It's trickier driving the LEDs. But you might get neon bulbs to work with the stock oscillator.
