cathode follower and parallel se

Post by utervo »

Haven't build an amp yet since I haven't been able to figure out what to build! Somehow by reading and learning I've thought that perhaps a parallel single ended amp with the ability to take EL84's and 6V6's with an EF86 preamp would be interesting.

Something like Bassman tone stack might be nice? It would need a cathode follower tube (12AX7) in between the pre and output but what should I do with the other triode, parallel it with the other? Or splitting the signal an making 2 tone stack that are separate, or separate volume stage?

I thought of putting the sockets with separate resistors and caps for biasing EL84's and 6V6's, that would work so I could combo them with one of each of the other way around?

Build a Champ. Or similar 12AX7+power-bottle amp.

There's more than enough work and debugging in a Champ for a first project.

Save the tricky-stuff for your second third etc amps.

That of course is the wisest thing to do, and I most likely will build a champ!

...that won't satisfy my curiosity! :)
