This time a friend had me look to see why his new solid state Kustom 12 Gauge amp wasn't work. Well the PT and PCB board were fried. He got it in a trade, used it and sold it to me for a very low price.
I stripped it in a few minutes added some new Classic Tone transformers Deluxe Fender flavor to run a pair of 6V6 but this amp is going to be high gain and all PTP.
Combo cab has 12" speaker, not sure how good that speaker is but at least I can change out to my favorite WGS Veteran 30 if I want.

Real nice, Mark. I like this approach. I see you wasted no time.
Re: Another salvaged combo amp
Phil I find myself lurking web sites for solid state amps that have good chassis for conversion saving on chassis and cabinet costs.
Just seems like how local people roll, bunch of cheap bastards so I'm becoming a cheapster myself. Except for transformers, caps, resistors, pots, jacks, tubes & sockets, and wire are all high quality. Then I can sell for around $700.
Before I would order a cabinet, find a chassis, have Colossal (Dave) design a faceplate, order the plates, get transformers and other components I have draws full of already but that would bring build cost up to $800-$1000 on average. Speaker cost is up as well as tube costs.
I'm in the junking business now.

No shame in that... Someone once told me, "You can't shine shit". Well I beg to differ.

You may not be able to shine shit, but you can certainly polish a turd:

As an amateur builder, I have always be reticent to spend too much on project. I've done several salvage type builds. I've also sourced transformers from eBay and from this guy http://www.oldradioparts.com/ Be forewarned he's a little bit of an oddball; read and follow his instructions for making an inquiry very carefully and you might be rewarded with some very good iron for very little money. PT's are much easier to come by than OT's. I bought several chokes from him last year for my SE plexi project -- you can find the choke discussion somewhere at TAG. As you've already gathered, if you can keep the cost of the chassis and iron under $100, you can get the build done for $200-ish. There is every reason to expect a great result. There is no turning back, IMO, from being in the salvage business. Personally, I find it very rewarding to get great tone from junk. i hope you do, too.M Fowler wrote:...$800-$1000...I'm in the junking business now.

just winging it.
Punched two large holes tonight for 50-50 cap can and 32-32 cap can and will wire up the phase inverter section then the pots.
