Loose valve

Post by Littlewyan »

I have a 6V6 that is loose in it's base. So you can slot it into a socket and then wiggle the glass around. I'm guessing theres not much I can do about this and its just time to chuck it away?

Thin superglue? I googled "high temp cyanoacrylate" and it looks like there are some appropriate choices.

I have used Rocksett before for this exact purpose and also on the key. However, I already had it on hand using it for other applications.Nevertheless, I don't know if I would not run out and buy something just to save a rather inexpensive tube, could be cheaper to chunk and replace.

You could try any number of common 2 part epoxies, many of these will handle a few hundred degrees and you might even have one hand. I imagine you don't have anything to lose.

It sounds like its going to be cheaper and easier for me to chuck the bad valve away. I have a spare set of JJ 6V6S that I can stick in.

Thanks guys.

If it works and has not gone microphonic due to being loose then why chuck it?
What I do run a bead of automotive black silicone gasket maker around on the bottom so that it over laps the the base and glass.

Its not microphonic but its very loose. Wobbles extremely easy and made me very uneasy! I've not chucked it, I've just swapped these valves for another pair and put these two to one side.
