Wiring help for dpdt on/on/on switch

Post by titser_marco »

Hi! I'm looking to implement a 3-way cathode bypass cap selector for v1 and I'm stuck as to how to wire the switch in such a way that the switching action is as such (values are ballpark, trying to do a Marshall/Dumble/Fender config of sorts):

Down: .68uF
Middle: 5uF
Up: 25uF

Help guys!

Would you settle for...

Down = 5.68
Middle = .68
Up = 25.68

Very easy with a common SPDT center off switch.

I was thinking along those lines too if it weren't really possible with either an SPDT or DPDT.

You'll need a 3 way toggle switch that's SPDT, with the center position off.

On/Off/On . Resistors keep away the pops.

For the exact wiring arrangement, I think that details of the particular switch to be used are required.

OMG THANK YOU! Should I use 100K? I researched on this and some are recommending 1M. What do you think?

Colossal gave me a nice 3 way switch diagram that might help you.

Anything from 100K to 1M should work fine. The idea is that you want the cap to charge (through the resistor), but also be large enough so that the cap has no bypass effect, as the series cap>resistor are always in circuit, until you short across the resistor. I generally the use that neglected, mangled one hanging out on my bench...whatever value
Conversely, if you want a moderate bypass, stick a small resistor in series with the cap, or a smallish pot for a variable effect.
