pix - clips soon
EDIT - The chassis pic was taken when first built and although it sounded really good I made some changes on the final version of this amp. All the shielded (Belden 82907 25.4pf/ft) was removed except V1,V2 grids and loop. Belden sucks, I'm going back to using COAX an the next build. I also tweaked some plate/cathode values - the od section is now voiced like the Dlite schematic.

Hi!
Can you explain the term Bassman. Surely it's not a clone of a Fender bassman! At least not the one's I've seen.
Thanks
Stew

It was a Silver Faced Bassman - whatever year they used the aluminum trim.

Great looking amp and layout.
Re: Bassman Clone
Very sexy amp. Where did you go to get the custom faceplate?

A 1A OT fuse is a great idea.
Very nice work, and I like your faceplates.

Re: Bassman Clone
Yeah - why bother - they don't have ANY hum or noise and the bloom is slightly better - I've never noticed enough sag to get in the way of playing tight crisp power chords so again why bother?

heisthl,
Every time I see that youve posted in the "Dumble Files" section, it's like dessert. I push it off to the side until I've finished reading all of the others. Then , I can savour the flavour.
Another great job! Keep 'em comin'.
Does anyone make a Bassman chassis?
I'd hate to wreck (er Dumble-ize) a classic amp.

Believe me, if this Amp was in good shape I would have never modified it. The head cab was totally trashed and it had some monster 12+ pound piece of crap power transformer, a combination of output tube cathode bias resistors and supplemental negative bias (provided by the little add on transformer I ended up using for the relay and fan power). The original board was a total aborto tech looking nightmare with multiple 1/4 watt resistors paralleled up to make 1/2 watts and those white square plastic caps. But wait - there's more! The speaker cabinet (an actual Fender 2-12 cabinet) had a no name 1" voice coil small magnet speaker and an ultra cheap foam surround car woofer in it and to top it off it was covered in black genuine imitation leather with the radio shack home stereo grill cloth. I'll include a pic when it's finished.LeeMo wrote:

Sometimes it's a real joy to gut and redo an amp.
