Ebay score

Post by skyboltone »

Well, maybe a score.
I picked this up on the bay because it has a pair of Mercury Axiom transformers. With the chassis I got a pretty good deal I think.

Anyway, I know this is D'lite suitable but I'm tempted to make an AB763 out of it.

Does anyone recognize this layout? Nothing is soldered so there's a resistor loose in the chassis. The jacks and pot are junk but the chassis and sockets are fine. I'll probably deep six all the board components. Use Vishays and SPs instead.

AXiom FBfd-om Blackface Deluxe Reverb OT
No choke

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the replys

Looks a bit like a 6G3 Deluxe.

Yes it does, and the guy mentioned that that was where he was headed. I just don't know why anyone would build that one out of all the Deluxe schemes. Oh well. I've got much to work on before I tackle that one but it will either be a D'lite or an AA/AB763. The rhythm guitar guy in our worship band sounds SOOOO bad on his SS Marshall, I just gotta do something about it.

And hello David, I don't believe we've met, I've been away from the projects and this forum since last NOV, but I sure like your contributions around here.

The 6G3 actually gets pretty strong advocates. More headroom than a 5E3, but still gnarly, so in context it might come off angrier.

I heard it was a 6G3 on "Catscratch Fever," pretty good tone, I always kind of wanted to build one, it's almost a Marshallized 5E3 in that it has a long tail phase inverter, GZ34, fixed bias and a bit of negative feedback, all of which are improvements as far as my taste is concerned. ...except maybe the nfb.

Thanks for the observations Bear and Alexo. Maybe I can find one to play somewhere before I start things.

Thanks
