The cab and speaker are a big part of the sound, if your plan is to just build a head you may be disappointed. But you might get lucky and find something good to plug it into - or already know of something good.
You know about?

No experience and I've no idea how close to the real thing their parts actually get you.

I will dig out and measure up my B15NF for you tonight, I have not plugged her in for a while and the caps need that anyway!

Thanks Martin, that was fun. What are the strange copper plates the guy stuck on the diodes in this image?martin manning wrote:Lots of good info here: http://ctgelectronics.weebly.com/custom ... -51-b.html

Heat sinks I suppose. I wonder if any experimentation was done to determine that the best configuration is to put them on the cathode end only?

Maybe just for a quick polarity check... I have heard of people doing this with pennies. Probably older, real copper pennies though. Seems like the idea would work great.

Also note the 6550s need twice the heater current that the 7868s use!

Re: ampeg build
Sorry I forgot, but here's the info!
The chassis is 17" wide and 8.5" deep on the bottom section.
The height is 4 1/8" on the rear,7 3/8 deep on top and the first verticle rise section on the front from the bottom is 5/8" and the verticle drop down on the top front is 5/8" also.
It interesting to note that Ampeg did what Gibson did in there early amps, that bring that they sheilded the OT primary wires in these amps.
Gibson did it with each primary wire being sheilded, and Ampeg ran all three Of them in one braded sheild.
