Clean amp suggestions

Post by bolomule »

Hey all, need some help deciding on my next build. I have the dirty/overdrive side of amps covered. I want to build a clean amp next that is warm and touch sensitive. For a point of reference, I played a Victoria Victrolux 6L6 2x12 with Jensens that still haunts me. That amp had a real good feel to it. Like you could feel the note bloom and had that 3d swoosh thing. Kinda hard to describe. I think I read that circuit is a BF. Maybe the speakers had a lot to do with the feel? Guess I am looking for what is your favorite clean amp and speaker to go with it?

Tubedude thanks for the suggestion. I've built an Old Flame before which is based on the SR. My BF builds always sound a little dry for some reason. Played a vintage BF before and it was very warm, so not sure where the disconnect is. I play with 12" JBLs with my builds which might be the main reason.

try increasing your plate Rs to 110-120k - those old carbon comp Rs tended to drift upwards.

Change out the JBL's for some Weber or other mfgrs version of old school Jensens. Then Change out the feedback resistor to get rid of most of the feedback.
